’s-HERTOGENBOSCH, 15 December 2008 – APS Building Brands has entered into a partnership agreement with RePay International, the company behind the Visa GreenCard and ClimaCount. Among other things, APS Building Brands is partly responsible for the development of the ClimaCount brand. The agreement means that APS Building Brands will carry out the continued development of the ClimaCount brand. Recently, RePay International signed contracts with Visa Europe and with an American credit card partner for the ClimaCount roll-out. According to this agreement, APS Building Brands will support the company in promoting its vision on CO2-emissions and on CO2-neutral consumption to an international audience.
In 2007, APS Building Brands developed the brand concept for ClimaCount, a program whereby credit card holders are able to consume CO2-neutral. This concept is presently being rolled out both internationally and among different target groups. During the roll-out, RePay International has detected various stages of awareness when it comes to the subject of CO2-emissions. In the Netherlands, the program particularly concentrates on CO2-compensation whereas in other countries it appears that consumers’ awareness regarding their own consumption behaviour and the amount of CO2-emissions involved is often still at a very early stage.
Patrick Bunnik, CEO of RePay International: “We have noticed that Dutch people are much more aware of their own consumption behaviour and of the CO2-emissions involved than in other countries or states. In order to achieve a good local market position for a credit card that makes all purchases CO2-neutral, it is important that we provide an appropriate response to these various stages of awareness. APS Building Brands will now be responsible for adapting all our messages to the relevant situation in the local and international markets. At the same time, this partner will also monitor the consistency of our brand values”.
According to John Lommers, Creative Director of APS Building Brands, “the unique global concept of ClimaCount means that RePay International takes on a pioneering role each time it sets foot onto a new market. This requires extensive knowledge about local markets which can not be based upon such a thing as a benchmark. In order to be able to work on increasing awareness as far as consumption behaviour and CO2-emissions are concerned, in cooperation with RePay International and TNO we have developed something called the LifeStyler. This is a user-friendly module which gives an online overview of the amount of CO2-emissions caused by a person with his or her particular lifestyle”.
APS Building Brands is also planning to work on an international basis with various financial institutions in order to ensure that ClimaCount is correctly positioned on local markets.
RePay International provides a global program under the name ClimaCount, whereby credit card
holders are able to consume CO2-neutral. All the harmful CO2-emissions caused by the products
purchased (during their complete lifecycle) are calculated according to a method checked and
monitored by TNO, and then compensated by means of certified, CO2-reducing projects. Credit card
companies, banks, retailers, government organizations and NGOs link the program under licence to
their own credit cards.

RePay International is responsible for the international distribution of the ClimaCount credit card
program, and in the Netherlands it is known for the Visa GreenCard. The company develops strategic
alliances with banks, credit card companies, businesses and NGOs who then link the concept under
licence to their own credit cards. In this way, credit card companies are able to offer their customers
the possibility to consume CO2-neutral. RePay International is currently working on the international
introduction of ClimaCount with the assistance of professional, independent organizations such as CE
Delft, PricewaterhouseCoopers and research institute TNO. RePay International is located in
’s-Hertogenbosch and in San Francisco (US) and is a subsidiary of Tendris Holding B.V., an
organization that develops and supports ideas for doing socially-responsible business.
