Visa GreenCard delighted about the CO2-compensation partnership

Website ‘klimaatcompensatie.nl’ launched by Minister Cramer (VROM)

Den Bosch, 4 July 2007 - Visa GreenCard is one of the participants in www.klimaatcompensatie.nl, an associated partnership of the six largest providers of CO2-compensation in The Netherlands. This partnership was launched on 2 July 2007 in the presence of Minister Cramer of VROM (Dept of Health & the Environment) together with the unveiling of the ‘Klimaatcompensatie’ logo.

During the official launch, Minister Cramer emphasised the importance of climate compensation being made available to consumers and of people being able to put their trust in the way in which these climate compensation schemes are operated. The ‘klimaatcompensatie’ logo quite clearly supports both these aspects.

Patrick Bunnik of Visa GreenCard: “We are very pleased with this logo linked to consuming CO2-neutral and we totally agree with the Minister's statement about making genuine and reliable climate compensation schemes available to all consumers. The Visa GreenCard meets these requirements by guaranteeing card holders free compensation for CO2 emissions resulting from the production of products or services purchased with the card. The calculation system linked to our CO2 compensation scheme was developed based on reports published by the Department of Health & the Environment, and is supported and monitored by the independent research organization TNO.”

Five other providers of climate compensation schemes have joined Visa GreenCard in an associated partnership - Essent, Greenchoice, KlimaatNeutraal Groep/Greenseat, Rabobank and Trees for Travel. These partners will all provide consumers with information and will also monitor each other to check that the climate compensation promised to the consumer actually takes place. An accountant oversees the results. The six partners can be recognized by the 'Association of climate compensation providers' logo. The environmental information and publicity organization 'Milieu Centraal' was behind the initiative to set up this partnership. For more information: www.klimaatcompensatie.nl
